Science, Math & Creativity:
SM&C was developed in response to a survey that revealed, while interest in STEM was increasing our students lacked of confidence in science and math. It is believed that these fundamental deficiencies will eventually overwhelm the benefits of our programming.
SM&C provides an opportunity to improve student’s overall knowledge while addressing individual learning needs in those subjects. It is delivered as a 5-week module as part of our Summer program. Lessons and activities are designed to help explain the Science & Math incorporated in the WayFinders project making the subjects relevant instead of simply academic subjects. Modules may include topic matter from geometry, physics, material science, chemistry, structural engineering and psychology (3-weeks).
Creativity spans from creative writing and story telling to 3D printing. In partnership with the Cambridge Public Library, students will pilot the library’s new 3D media lab. Students will combine creativity and technology by exploring 3D printing, 3D scanning and virtual reality (2-weeks). An optional writing workshop is also incorporated (5-weeks).
